Inter-island car shipping Hawaii between all six islands

We ship cars between every Hawaiian island with vehicle barge service: Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, Kauai, Molokai, and Lanai. Inter-island car shipping Hawaii rates start at about $450 port to port for a small car and top out near $900 for the heaviest standard vehicle. The crossing takes 1 to 2 days, and the car is usually ready to collect the next business day. Honolulu is the hub for every route, so a car going from Maui to the Big Island connects on Oahu before it heads back out. We book the sailing, check your documents before drop-off, and handle pickup and delivery on both islands.

How we handle shipping cars between Hawaiian islands

  1. 1
You give us the islands, the vehicle, its registered weight, and your date. We confirm the rate class, check the car against the size and weight limits, and reserve the sailing. We also put a receiving person and an alternate on the booking, because only they can collect the car at the destination.
  2. 2
We review your registration, insurance, and ID before drop-off day. If anyone other than the owner delivers the car to the harbor, including our driver, we tell you exactly what the notarized letter needs and where to mail the original.
  3. 3
Our local driver picks up the car and brings it to the harbor at the appointment time, or you drive it in yourself.
  4. 4
Terminal staff verify the documents, inspect the VIN, and record any existing marks on the vehicle condition report. You or our driver sign the bill of lading, and a working key stays with the car.
  5. 5
We track the sailing and any weather changes. On neighbor island routes, we also confirm the Honolulu connection.
  6. 6
The car is released to the named receiver. Whoever collects it inspects it before leaving the terminal, so any damage goes on the delivery paperwork. Then our driver delivers it, or you drive it home.

Documents and prep for interisland vehicle shipping

Before drop-off:
  • Run the fuel down to a quarter tank or less.
  • Disconnect the alarm.
  • Wash the car inside and out, including the undercarriage and truck bed. The harbor inspects for soil, mud, seeds, and manure even though the car never leaves Hawaii.
  • Remove loose plants, which aren’t allowed. Anything with roots needs a state plant quarantine inspection first.
  • Take out fire extinguishers, firearms, ammunition, and hazardous materials.
  • Leave a working ignition and door key with the car. We suggest handing over a duplicate and keeping your originals.
  • Keep personal items out of the front seat and below the seat backs. They ride at your own risk, since cargo coverage doesn’t include them.

If you’re shipping between two neighbor islands, we book both legs through Honolulu at once. If you’re sending someone else to the harbor, mail them the original notarized letter, not a scan. If you’re bringing the car back within 30 days, ask us about the return rate. If you’re shipping a lifted or heavy-duty truck, send its measurements along with the weight.
