Military car shipping Hawaii for PCS moves, second cars and return trips

Our military car shipping Hawaii service picks up where the government’s program stops. Your PCS orders pay to ship one vehicle, and only from a Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) you have to deliver it to yourself. We ship the second car. We pick it up at your door, take the big trucks that run over the government’s size limit, connect cars to Maui, Kauai and the Big Island, and bring them back to the mainland when your tour’s done. Port to port to Oahu starts at $1,650, and military members and veterans get $150 off. Send us your report date and we’ll build the shipping calendar backward from it.

How we ship your car to Hawaii on PCS orders

  1. 1

You send us your report date, duty station and vehicle details. We send back a Hawaii car shipping quote and a calendar showing your pickup window, port cutoff and sailing.

  2. 2

You sign the booking and a notarized authorization that lets our driver hand the car to the terminal in your place. If the car’s financed or leased, you’ll also need a lienholder authorization letter. We check that every name matches across your title, registration and ID, down to the Jr. or Sr., and run the VIN for open recalls before pickup.

  3. 3

We pick up at your door. The driver walks around the car with you and records every scratch on a vehicle condition report with photos. Gas should be at a quarter tank or less, and the car should be clean and empty.

  4. 4

We truck it to the Port of Long Beach, Oakland or San Diego inside the terminal’s receiving window, so it makes the sailing we booked.

  5. 5

The car rolls onto a roll-on/roll-off (RORO) ship under a bill of lading and crosses in five to eight days. We update you at port drop-off, at sailing and on arrival.

  6. 6

We tell you when the car’s released in Honolulu, Kahului, Hilo or Nawiliwili. You, or someone you’ve authorized in writing, check it against the condition report before driving off. Note any new damage on that report at the terminal, because damage found later at home is much harder to claim.

FAQ

Yes, and military members can ship a car to Hawaii two ways. PCS orders cover one car, owned or leased, through the government’s VPC network at no cost: you deliver it to the VPC and collect it at the Honolulu VPC. Any other car ships commercially, and that’s ours to handle, from door pickup to release in Honolulu, Kahului, Hilo or Nawiliwili, with $150 off for military members and veterans.

No. The entitlement on an OCONUS move covers one vehicle, and a second car is out of pocket. From California, port to port to Oahu runs $1,650 to $1,950, or from $1,500 after our military discount. Neighbor islands start at $2,245 with the discount applied.

Used cars in Hawaii usually sell for 10 to 25% more than the same car on the mainland, and selection is thinner. On a $15,000 car, that’s $1,500 to $3,750 more, against $1,500 to $1,950 to ship it to Oahu with the military discount. Shipping usually wins for a paid-off car in good shape worth $15,000 or more. Selling makes more sense for an older, high-mileage car whose shipping bill gets close to what it’s worth.

Book six to eight weeks before your report date if you report between mid-May and August, and four to six weeks the rest of the year. For Maui, the Big Island or Kauai, add three weeks for the barge connection. Request a quote as soon as your orders drop, since the sailing and pickup window lock in when you book.

Yes. For your second car, your spouse can hand it to our driver and sign the condition report, and if the car’s titled in their name, they sign the booking too. At the VPC, a spouse turning in the entitled car usually needs a power of attorney, plus a marriage certificate if the member isn’t on the title or lienholder letter. At pickup in Hawaii, anyone you’ve authorized in writing can collect the car.

Every government-shipped car gets a required delivery date at turn-in. If it misses that date, service members can claim rental car costs of up to $30 a day for seven days, $210 in total, until the car’s available. Keep every rental receipt and report the delay to the VPC and your transportation office. Costs above that go through the contractor’s separate claim process.

If your orders change before pickup, we cancel your booking without a fee. If the car’s already on the road or at the port, we’ll work out whether to reroute it or hold it, and quote any added cost before we move it.

If you’re on PCS orders, we’ll haul your entitled car to the VPC and ship the second one to Hawaii. If you’re shipping an EV or plug-in hybrid, we set up the owner booking on the quote call. If you’re driving a lifted or long-bed truck, send the measurements with the lift and racks included. If you’re leaving Hawaii in a financed car, request your lienholder letter the day your orders drop.
